Trip Information
Day 1: MUSCAT
Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 2: MUSCAT
Breakfast and departure for a visit to the city: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, modern and elegant, famous for the beautiful Persian carpet and the incredible chandelier. Continue to Shatti al Qurum, the beautiful seafront of Muscat, until reaching the Opera House. Stop for the visit from outside (Internal to be requested if possible and entrance to be paid on site). Free lunch. In the afternoon visit the Bait al Zubair Museum which will allow you to understand the history, habits and customs of Oman; of the Sultan’s palace (external) and the two Portuguese-era forts Jalali and Mirani (external); of Muttrah where the largest souq in Oman is located, with the myriad of spices and colored fabrics, incense and silver jewellery. Return to the hotel, free dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: MUSCAT / WADI BANI AWF / SNAKE GORGE / AL HAMRA / JABAL SHAMS
Breakfast and departure for the Batinah region, direction Nakhal, after which we will deviate towards Wadi Bani Awf. We will head inland to cross the western Hajar chain, following a fascinating off-road itinerary that will offer spectacular views of mountains, canyons and endless valleys. Stop at Snake Gorge or Snake Gorge, whose name derives from the tortuous shape and dizzying vertical walls that characterize it. We will continue to climb up to over 2000 meters and then descend towards Al Hamra where we will visit the old city, considered the most refined in Oman, dating back to the 17th century. Free lunch. Departure for JABAL SHAMS, Arrival and visit to the Jabal shams “. Photo stop at the grand canyon and enjoy land scape and sleep in the mountain on height 2100 m. Hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: JABAL SHAMS / SINT / TOMBS / JABREEN / BAHLA / NIZWA
Departure cross mountain to reach Wadi Al Ayn, to visit the funerary complex of tombs which, together with Bat and the Al Khutm tower, is one of the 5 sites in Oman registered in the UNESCO list since 1988. Wadi al Ayn is the most suggestive due to its position and the scenery of the Jabal Misth which frames it. The tombs date back to the Hafit period (around 3000 BC), which is the early Bronze Age period in Oman. Departure for Jabrin where we will visit the famous Castle considered the most refined in Oman and dating back to 1670. Lunch in a local restaurant in Bahla (option) and panoramic photo stop at the fortified city (UNESCO), Visit the capital of the Imamate of Oman in the 9th century with the Fort and the various souqs where you can buy silver jewelry, spices, dates, rose water, terracotta objects. Arrival at the hotel.
Day 5: NIZWA / SINAW / KHALUF / SUGAR DUNE
Departure to visit Bedouin suq in sinew (special market in Thursday), Departure to visit one of the most beautiful beaches in OMAN (khaluf and sugar dune) with camp fire and dinner in the beach under sky full of stars. Camping or guest house.
Day 6: SUGAR DUNE / RAS RUWAYS / CROS DESERT / SHARQIYA
Departure and Photo stop at Ras Ruways, where you can admire the brown-ochre desert that fades into the sea, interspersed with singular lamellar rock formations. Departure for the crossing of the Wahiba Sands desert, with the beautiful golden dunes, deep valleys and infinite spaces that will give visitors extraordinary images. Various photographic stops in the most suggestive areas. Arrived and sleep in the camp.
Day 7: SHARQIYA / WADI BANI KHALED / JALAN / WOODLAND / COST ROAD / SUR
Breakfast and departure to Al Kamil and then Jalan Bani Bu Ali. Stop to visit the hamooda Fort, an example of an unrenovated fort with a particular charm, dating back 400 years. Then visit the nearby hamooda Mosque (external), known as the 52-dome Mosque for its unique architectural form. We will continue along an exciting off-road itinerary to cross the “Woodland” desert, with light sands and a real forest of Prosopis Cineraria inside, a symbolic plant against desertification. We will reach the coast of the Arabian Sea to continue north towards Al Askhara. Free lunch. Traveling along the coast always northwards you will visit the cliffs at Al Khabba. Continuation and arrival in Sur.
Day 8: SUR / TIWI / GULF OF OMAN / BIMAN SINKHOLE / WADI ARBEEN / MUSCAT
Breakfast and visit to Sur, once a thriving commercial port for trade with India and particularly Africa. Visit to Ajyjah, an ancient settlement of the city and the shipyards where the “dhows”, typical Arab boats, are built, still by hand using traditional methods. Departure to visit tiwi. Departure along the coast of the Gulf of Oman, with beautiful sea and mountain landscapes. Arrival at the so-called Biman Sinkhole, a geological formation consisting of a crater in the ground with emerald waters at the bottom. Free lunch. Departure for Muscat, deviating inland along the beautiful Wadi Arbeen, a wadi that winds between rocky walls and is crossed by perennial water forming lakes and waterfalls. Arrival in Muscat.
Day 9: MUSCAT
Breakfast and final transfer to the airport.
