Trip Information
Day 1: MUSCAT
Arrival and transfer to the hotel. Overnight stay.
Day 2: MUSCAT
Breakfast and departure for a visit to the city: the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, modern and elegant, famous for the beautiful Persian carpet and the incredible chandelier. Continue to Shatti al Qurum, the beautiful seafront of Muscat, until reaching the Opera House. Stop for the visit (external. Internal to be requested if possible and entrance to be paid on site). Free lunch. In the afternoon visit the Bait al Zubair Museum which will allow you to understand the history, habits and customs of Oman; of the Sultan’s palace (external) and the two Portuguese-era forts Jalali and Mirani (external); of Muttrah where the largest souq in Oman is located, with the myriad of spices and colored fabrics, incense and silver jewelry. Return to the hotel, free dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: MUSCAT / WADI BANI AWF / SNAKE GORGE / AL HAMRA / JABRIN / NIZWA
Breakfast and departure for the Batinah region, direction Nakhal, after which we will deviate towards Wadi Bani Awf. We will head inland to cross the western Hajar chain, following a fascinating off-road itinerary that will offer spectacular views of mountains, canyons and endless valleys. Stop at Snake Gorge or Snake Gorge, whose name derives from the tortuous shape and dizzying vertical walls that characterize it. We will continue to climb up to over 2000 meters and then descend towards Al Hamra and Jabrin where we will visit the Castle, considered the most refined in Oman, dating back to the 17th century. Free lunch. Departure for Nizwa, Arrival and visit to the ancient capital of the Imamate of Oman from the 9th century, known as the ” pearl of Islam “. Photo stop at the Fort (external) and visit the various souqs where you can buy silver jewellery, terracotta, spices, rose water, dates. Hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: NIZWA / WADI BANI KHALID / SHARQIYA SANDS
Breakfast and departure for Wadi Bani Khalid. Arrival and visit to this splendid mountain oasis-wadi crossed by a perennial watercourse that forms waterfalls and lakes bordered by palm trees. Free lunch. Departure for Al Wasil and then the Wahiba desert. Arrival and accommodation in the permanent camp. In the afternoon, departure for an exciting excursion into the desert to admire the large spaces, the curious and sometimes bizarre shapes of the dunes shaped by the wind, which in this desert can reach heights of 120 meters. in height. After various photo stops you will reach the top of a dune to wait for the sunset which with its incredible colors will give unforgettable sensations. Our drivers will offer you a small snack with a cold drink. Return to camp, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 5: SHARQIYA SANDS / CROSS WAHIBA / KHALUF BAY
Breakfast and early departure for the crossing of the Wahiba desert, with its breathtaking scenery. Photographic stops to admire dunes, infinite spaces and unexpected patches of vegetation that create incredible color contrasts, scattered here and there you can observe Bedouin settlements and dromedaries in their natural habitat. Free lunch. The crossing will end on the coast from where we will continue south. Arrival at the spectacular Khaluf Bay where we will continue off-road along the sea. The landscape is of extraordinary beauty characterized by white sand dunes that fade into the sea. Laying of the camp and time for a swim in this blue and transparent sea. Dinner under the stars and overnight stay.
Day 6: KHALUF BAY / RAS MADRAKAH / DUQM
Breakfast and departure for a new day dedicated to nature and the discovery of unexpected landscapes, completely outside the tourist circuits. We will proceed south following the coast until we deviate inland towards Ras Madrakah to visit the beautiful fishermen’s bay. Free lunch. Then departure for Duqm. Arrival, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 7: DUQM / WADI SHUWAYMIYAH
Breakfast and continuation south, stop in a splendid natural oasis full of life with an internal lagoon that reaches the sea. The beach is of white sand always patrolled by sea birds. Time for photos and a bath. Continuation and new stop to visit a splendid natural bay of light sand. Time for relaxation, free lunch and a refreshing bath. Arrival at Shuwaymiyah where we will head inland through this spectacular wadi with impressive rock formations and a natural spring. Time for photos and camp posing. Dinner under the stars and overnight stay.
Day 8: SHUWAYMIYAH / HASIK / MIRBAT / SALALAH
Breakfast and departure for Salalah. Stop along this beautiful coastal route to admire wadis that fade into the sea, the Hasik area where impressive rock walls border the sea and the ancient city of Mirbat with its characteristic Yemeni-style houses. Free lunch. Arrival in Salalah, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 9: SALALAH / UBAR / RUB AL KHALI DESERT
Breakfast and departure for Ubar the lost city, called “the Atlantis of the Desert”, mentioned in the Koran and in the Arabian Nights. After visiting the excavations, we will head into the Rub Al Khali desert, up to Hashman. The Rub Al Khali desert is one of the most fascinating deserts in the world with its very high ocher dunes in the Hashman area and exploring it is certainly an unforgettable experience. Picnic lunch and continuation with photo stops up to the area chosen for laying the pitch. Field pose. You will enjoy the atmosphere of the desert while waiting for the sunset which with its extraordinary colors offers unforgettable images. Dinner under the stars and overnight stay.
Day 10: RUB AL KHALI / WADI DHAWKAH / SUMHURAM-KHOR RORI / SALALAH
Wake up at dawn to admire the colors of the desert, breakfast and departure for Salalah. Stop in Wadi Dhawkah (UNESCO) to observe the incense plants. Arrival and continuation towards East Salalah up to Sumhuram, an archaeological area protected by UNESCO, which housed the ancient port city (1st-3rd century BC) from where the incense was shipped. Visit and continuation inside the lagoon, a natural oasis where numerous birds live, until reaching the strip of sand that separates the lagoon from the sea. Stop for photos and a walk along the beach. Free lunch. Departure for Salalah. Arrival, hotel accommodation, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 11: SALALAH / WEST SALALAH / SALALAH
Breakfast and depart for Ayn Sahalnoot, one of the most attractive natural springs in the Dhofar region, surrounded by amazing landscapes with natural rock formations. Throughout the year the spring provides sufficient water and is a popular place for leisure among locals. Continue and arrive at Mughsail where the white sand touches the deep blue of the Indian Ocean. Leaving the car, we will continue on foot alongside the rock face to an observation point to admire the phenomenon called “blowholes”, high sprays of water that come out of the rock in the presence of wave motion. Continue along a scenic mountain route where the road goes up and down in a zigzag, offering breathtaking views. You will then descend towards Fazaya Beach, one of the most spectacular beaches in Oman. Fazaya is framed by the splendid Dhofar mountains and characterized by a long white sand beach dotted with islets and rocky peaks. Bath time. Return to hotel, dinner and overnight.
Day 12: SALALAH
Breakfast and transfer to the airport.
